XVIII is a faithful portrait of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, where the photographer Cebos Nalcakan was born and grew up, and where, over the years and through his daily life, he has built a body of documentation that is remarkably consistent and honest. The publication brings together photographs and rap lyrics by artists emblematic of the Goutte d'Or neighbourhood.
CEBOS, or Djibril Nalcakan (Encrage photo agency), is a French-Turkish photographer born in 1990. Raised on the hip-hop spirit, in love with words and sound since childhood, it was in photography that he found his language. He is drawn to those on the margins of society and works to deconstruct his own stereotypes.
