SPIRALES is a photographic investigation into the forced sterilization of Greenlandic women by the Danish government between 1966 and 1975.
Blending documentary, investigative work, and visual art, this project by a French photographer gives a powerful voice to women who have long been buried in silence.
JULIETTE PAVY — A documentary photographer who graduated from the photojournalism program at EMI CFD in Paris, she regularly collaborates with the national press, including Le Monde, Libération, Le Figaro, Mediapart... In parallel, she is developing a documentary approach to photography on environmental and societal subjects, mainly in the Arctic.
In 2020, she co-founded the Collectif Hors Format and was selected for the Kickstarter x Polka call for projects. In 2022, she was awarded the Grande commande nationale by BnF and the French Ministry of Culture. The following year, she won the Union des Photographes Professionnels (UPP) prize and the Visa pour l'Image Françoise Demulder scholarship for her report on the forced sterilization of Greenlandic women. Her work has been exhibited and screened at festivals such as L'Oeil Urbain, Visa pour l'Image, Escales Photos and Les Femmes s'exposent.
In 2024, she was named Photographer of the year at the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA).
