A book born of painting

Par la force des choses is a book apart. Elegant and minimal, radical in concept, it accompanies the exhibition of the same name presented in 2026 at the Musée de l'Orangerie.

The book was a technical challenge to print. It appears in three languages — French, English and Mandarin — and required the largest production our team has ever mounted: photography over a long period, film work, fine craft, highly unusual special editions and commercial support. An exceptional publishing project that called on every one of our skills.

  • #1 Residency, co-creation and studio photography

    • Co-creating the concept of the book through discussion and sustained work in the artist's studio
    • A three-day residency with the artist to finalise the art direction
    • Several sets of proofs to reach the truest possible printed result
    • A film-based photographic record made in the artist's studio over several months — developing, printing, scanning, then featured in the book

    #2 Event production

    • A reception bringing together collectors, partners and art lovers
    • Staging and activation around the presentation of the 100 unique editions
    • Set design developed in keeping with the world of the exhibition and the book

  • #3 Visual production

    • Cutting and treating 100 covers made from the artist's own canvases, then photographing all 100 unique covers in the studio, retouching them and publishing 100 individual product pages
    • Several promotional films tracing the artist's creative process and the making of the book

    #4 Art editions

    • Introductions, oversight and coordination for the sale of a series of original limited-edition lithographs
    • Production of special editions
    • A dedicated presentation set-up for collectors

  • #5 Set design & cultural merchandising

    • Laying out the retail and interpretation spaces in the Orangerie bookshop
    • Staging the publications to strengthen their visibility and appeal.
