Workshop: designing and developing your publication
In this workshop, under the tutelage of Yegan Mazandarani and William Keo, we will share with you our vision of the publishing world and the book market, our skills, know-how and experience.
It is designed to pass on to you the concrete tools and work logics we use to realize our editorial projects.

Module #1 - Ideation and book design (directed by William Keo)
Aims: find an editorial concept for your series or book (guiding idea, title etc.), work out a sequence, define the spirit of the publication and an artistic direction.
Program:
09:00 - 10:30 - introduction to tutors and book creation
10:30 - 11:30 - introduction of each participant's project
11:30 - 12:30 - introduction to editing and visual storytelling with Giulietta Palumbo
12:30 - 13:30 - lunch with the whole team
13:30 - 18:30 - editing (in groups and individually)
Module #2 - Materializing your publication, planning, promoting and distributing (led by Yegan Mazandarani)
Objectives: understand the diversity of techniques and materials available, their influence on the publication budget, create a profitability on your editorial project, define a lead run, learn to use planning and budgeting tools for an editorial project, understand the levers of promotion and distribution.

10:00 - 11:30 - description of papers, materials and book techniques
11:30 - 12:30 - introduction to each participant's favorite books
12:30 - 13:30 - lunch
13:30 - 14:30 - definition of your book's profile (price, editions and materials)
14:30 - 15:30 - understanding and using a project budgeting tool
15:30 - 16:30 - understand and plan the stages of a publishing project
16:30 - 17:30 - the challenges of qualitative promotion, selling your book
17:30 - 18:30 - understanding, negotiating and distributing your book
Each day, we provide breakfast, and in the evening we'll be available for a quick drink together, to continue discussions and debrief the day.

Jérôme SESSINI — photographer
Jérôme Sessini was born in the Vosges Mountains, France, in 1968. He is one of the world's most respected names in the field of conflict zones.
He began his career covering numerous conflicts and war zones between 1998 and 2016. He covered the Iraq War (2003-2008), Afghanistan (2001-2010), the conquest of Mogadishu by Islamic militias, the Lebanon War (2006), the Libyan conflict (2011) and Ukraine (2014-2018). He covered Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
In addition to reporting from the front lines, he has covered social issues such as drug violence on the streets of Mexico City and anti-government protests in Ukraine.
A specialist in visual storytelling , his photographs have been published by numerous newspapers such as Newsweek , Stern , Paris Match , Le Monde and the Wall Street Journal , New Yorker , Time Magazine , De Standaart as well as in several books.
After being appointed in 2012, he became a member photographer of the Magnum Photos cooperative in 2016 before becoming an associate in 2018.
The same year, his work on "The Opioid Crisis in the United States" was recognized with the Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Prize.

Objective : meeting; presentations and discussions around your careers as photographers with the other participants and Jérôme.
Developing your personal narratives
Objective : develop and find new personal angles in your project, group reading, fieldwork in groups or individually
Develop your projects based on discussions
Objective : improve and deepen your projects through group discussions, field work in groups or individually
Find your voice and visual storytelling with a private portfolio reading with Jérôme Sessini
Objective : private exchange with Jérôme on your project while the other participants continue working on their project.
Present your project to all participants
Objective : Prepare a selection of images for the evening presentation to all Workshop participants and the Four Eyes Editions team
Creation and design of the work by William Keo
Objective : find an editorial concept based on the week's work (main idea, title, etc.), define the spirit of the publication and an artistic direction.
Materialize your publication, plan, promote and distribute by Yegan Mazandarani
Objective : to be able to put together the technical specifications of your book, to imagine a limited print run, to draw up a budget and a schedule.

A confirmed level, but not professional. A portfolio will be required.
